This is Pacheeko the baby raccoon and Yashu the 3-and-a-half legged kitten. Pacheeko is the youngest raccoon of the season so far (2009). Yashu didn't seem to interested in being sniffed over by Pacheeko

Pacheeko was brought to AWBAR because his mother had abandoned him.

AWBAR does NOT accept domesticated animals to rehab (ex. cats, dogs, domestic rabbits etc.) but the kitty, Yashu was an exception. Yashu's mother was a new mother and as most mother cats do, they tend to chew the umbilical cord off all their kittens. Yashu's mother accidentally chewed part of his hind left leg off while trying to chew his umbilical cord off. Yashu's first owner also injured his right ear (as you can see in the photo - it is all scabbed over). Yashu was playing around some wooden planks and his owner did not see him and she stepped onto the planks and his ear got caught in between the wooden planks, which resulted in his little ear being skinned. The owner brought Yashu to Amanda and she only took him because of the damage to his ear and leg. She was planning on adopting him to a good home but could not let him go on account of how quickly she fell in love with him. So now, he is an official and permanent member of the domestic AWBAR household (along with 5 other cats and 2 dogs).

ps - "Yashu" translates from Polish to "Johnny".

What is AWBAR?
It stands for "Abandoned Wild Babies Animal Rescue". AWBAR is run by one person, Amanda Smith. She takes in injured and abandoned wildlife and nurses them back to full health so that she can then release them back into the wild. AWBAR runs solely off of donations and is not state-funded. We are currently trying to raise money to get our non-for-profit status.
